For over a decade, I was a journalist—a storyteller, a deadline junkie and someone who thrived on the chaos of newsrooms. Big media houses, bigger egos and an endless race to stay relevant. It was exciting, for sure. But after a while, it felt like I was writing everyone else’s story except my own.

Switching my career to Thought Leadership wasn’t a planned move. Like most big life decisions, it wasn’t some dramatic epiphany, just a quiet realization that I wanted a change. That’s also the time when the idea of Fifth Estate took root. Vagamon wasn’t just a random location. It spoke to me. The land—wild and untamed—felt like a blank canvas waiting for a purpose. So, we took the plunge and bought it.

Here’s the thing about mountains: they’ve always been my thing. Especially the Himalayas. The air up there, the trails, the silence—it’s addictive. Every trek has been a reset button, a reminder that the best conversations are the ones you have with yourself in the middle of nowhere. For some reason, I was always partial to the ruggedness of the north, the Himalayas, over the gentler charm of the Western Ghats. Maybe it was the sheer majesty, or maybe I just didn’t give the Ghats their due.

I used to dream—of a glass cabin in the hills, where I could live a simple life, maybe even be a trekking guide. I liked that version of my future. But life, as we all know, isn’t big on following scripts. It has its own ideas, its own timeline. And honestly? That’s okay. I’ve learned to let it lead. You take one step, and then another, and before you know it, you’re standing somewhere you never imagined.

That’s how Fifth Estate came to life. My first entrepreneurial venture (yes, I’m still wrapping my head around calling myself an entrepreneur). It’s surreal and strangely grounding at the same time. I never thought I’d go from chasing stories to creating one of my own. But life has a funny way of showing you what’s possible—if you’re willing to trust it.

The name “Fifth Estate” holds special meaning for us. Traditionally, societies were divided into estates: the first (clergy), second (nobility), third (commoners), and the “Fourth Estate” representing the press—a realm I was once deeply involved in.
